چکیده
SkyPortal is an open-source software package designed to efficiently discover interesting transients, manage follow-up, perform characterization, and visualize the results. By enabling fast access archival catalog data, cross-matching heterogeneous data streams, triggering monitoring of on-demand observations for further a SkyPortal-based platform has been operating at scale 2 yr Zwicky Transient Facility Phase II community, with hundreds users, containing tens millions time-domain sources, interacting dozens telescopes, community reporting. While emphasizes rich user experiences (UX) across common frontend workflows, recognizing that scientific inquiry increasingly performed programmatically, also surfaces extensive well-documented API system. From backend science analysis tools visualization frameworks, design re-use leveraging best-in-class approaches, strong extensibility ethos. For instance, now leverages ChatGPT large-language models (LLMs) automatically generate surface source-level human-readable summaries. With imminent re-start next-generation gravitational wave detectors, includes dedicated multi-messenger features addressing requirements rapid follow-up: multi-telescope management, team/group organizing interfaces, streams optical surveys, interfaces sufficiently intuitive newcomers field. Data challenges of time domain astronomy Matthew
Astronomy has been at the forefront of the development of the techniques and methodologies of data intensive science for over a decade with large sky surveys and distributed efforts such as the Virtual Observatory. However, it faces a new data deluge with the next generation of synoptic sky surveys which are opening up the time domain for discovery and exploration. This brings both new scientif...
متن کاملManaging the Public to Manage Data: Citizen Science and Astronomy
Citizen Cyberscience Projects (CCPs) that recruit members of the public as volunteers to process and produce large datasets promise a great deal of benefits to scientists and science. However, if this promise is to be realised, and citizen science-produced datasets are to be widely used by scientists, it is essential that these datasets win the trust of the scientific community. This task of se...
متن کاملAstroPortal: A Science Gateway for Large-scale Astronomy Data Analysis
The creation of large digital sky surveys presents the astronomy community with tremendous scientific opportunities. However, these astronomy datasets are generally terabytes in size and contain hundreds of millions of objects separated into millions of files— factors that make many analyses impractical to perform on small computers. To address this problem, we have developed a Web Services-bas...
متن کاملCitizen Science: Contributions to Astronomy Research
The contributions of everyday individuals to significant research has grown dramatically beyond the early days of classical birdwatching and endeavors of amateurs of the 19 century. Now people who are casually interested in science can participate directly in research covering diverse scientific fields. Regarding astronomy, volunteers, either as individuals or as networks of people, are involve...
متن کاملuBeeMe - A platform to enable mobile collaborative applications
The vision of ubiquitous communication is driven by increasing user mobility and the need to collaborate. Mobile collaborative applications, such as mobile audio/video conferences, collaborative writing, social networks, and mobile gaming, are already important parts of human interaction. In this paper, we present the uBeeMe platform that supports the development of cooperative applications for...
